Chances are people you meet Taiwan won't be able to converse in English. While this is an inconvinence do not let it put you off. Taiwan has a lot to offer. However there are places where you most probably can find English speaking people;
- Your hotel; the more stars it have the more English speaking staf you will find. Treat them as your gateway to Taiwan. You can get a lot of information from them such as; how to get to anywhere, where to exchange your currency, where to do your shoping, where not to go ect.Remember you can get your Taiwan maps here. They also help write down the name of places i wanted to go in Chinese that i can bring everywhere.
- Big shopping complexs usually employ beautiful girls to serve in the information booth usually situated at ground level. They are very helpful and will probably be able to answer some of your questions.
- The staf at most MRT/LRT stations will most probably be able to speak at least basic English.
- Most salesperson at shopping complexs will be able to speak basic English.
- At the very least when buying at night markets, the calculator cuts through all language barrier with numbers that both side can key in
